APC Sets Le100,000 Fee for Flagbearer Contest Under New Election Rules
The All People’s Congress (APC) has set a Le100,000 nomination fee for members seeking to contest as the party’s presidential flagbearer.
The fee is contained in the party’s Internal Elections Rules and Regulations, which have now been gazetted by the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC). The rules govern APC elections from ward level up to the national delegates’ conference, including the selection of the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 presidential election.
Under the rules, only delegates voting at the National Delegates Conference can elect the flagbearer. Aspirants must have been fully paid-up party members for at least five consecutive years and must secure 50 percent plus one vote to win. A runoff will be held if no candidate meets the threshold.
The regulations also state that any serving party officer who intends to contest for flagbearer must resign from their position at least six months before the National Delegates Conference.
In addition to the flagbearer fee, the APC has set Le20,000 for National Chairman, Le15,000 for Deputy National Chairman, and smaller fees for other national, regional, district, constituency, and ward-level positions.
The rules form part of a broader internal elections framework approved by the party’s National Advisory Committee and published in line with the Political Parties Act 2022.
