RSLAF Commences Planting Season In Moyamba District

On Saturday, 24th January 2026, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), Lieutenant General Amara Idara Bangura, officially launched the 2026 RSLAF Planting Season at Yonie Village in Kamajei Chiefdom, Moyamba District.

The process started with 60% payment to Nguala Agricbusiness Development Company in Moyamba Junction, Fakunia Chiefdom, Moyamba District. The said payment is for the rental of tractors, ploughing and seed harrowing equipment for the cultivation of 240 hectares of rice farm out of the total of 400 hectares at Yonnie Village.

Additionally, the CDS had an engagement with “We-Can-Do-It” Solar Services Manager on solar irrigation for the farm site.

Furthermore, the CDS paid a courtesy visit on the Paramount Chief (PC) of Kamajei Chiefdom, PC Fayiah Sondufu Brima Souvula lV, and stakeholders in the Chiefdom. Both the CDS and the Chiefdom authorities discussed some issues of mutual benefits about the farm site, which has been used by the Armed  Forces Agricultural Unit (AFAU)

The Assistant Chief of Defence Staff (ACDS) for Legal Services, Brigadier General MBS Kamara, presented a case of leasing the land for two years, and the PC welcomed the idea for his people, with the view that it is going to be a sustainable benefit.

“If RSLAF tractors are available, my people will request for their use, and they will only provide fuel”, the PC affirmed.

The symbolic launching of the 2026 RSLAF Planting Season is significant to supporting the “Feed Salone” of His Excellency the President and Commander-in-Chief of the RSLAF, Brigadier General Dr Julius Maada Bio (Retired). Thus, the CDS vision for the RSLAF to feed itself is in fruition, especially in December 2026, when the RSLAF personnel were supplied with the rice they harvested.
