Orange Deepens Collaboration With Media

On Friday, February 6, 2026, Orange Sierra Leone (OSL) proudly hosted its annual media engagement event at its headquarters located at No. 1 Alpha Wurie Drive, Hill Station, Freetown. Under the theme “Connecting with the Media, Sharing Our Story,” the gathering attracted a diverse group of media professionals, including owners, editors, journalists, and key national stakeholders, reaffirming OSL’s dedication to fostering open dialogue and robust partnerships with the media—a vital player in the nation’s development.

The event was graced by notable figures such as Madam Aicha Touré, Chief Executive Officer of Orange Sierra Leone; Mr. Chernor Bah, Minister of Information and Civic Education; Mr. Khalil Kallon, Executive Secretary of the Independent Media Commission (IMC); Mr. Alhaji Manika Kamara, President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ); former SLAJ President, Mr. Kelvin Lewis; and Mr. Alhaji Dauda Bangura, media proprietor and former IMC Commissioner, among others. Their presence underscored the significance of collaboration between the corporate sector, the media, and government bodies.

Mr. Alhaji Dauda Bangura opened the event by commending Orange Sierra Leone for its unwavering support of the media sector and its contributions to national growth. He emphasized the company’s investments in journalists’ capacity-building initiatives, strategic partnerships, and access to modern communication technologies, highlighting the positive impact these efforts have on enhancing journalistic standards in the country. “The relationship between Orange Sierra Leone and the media is strong, mutually beneficial, and forward-looking,” he stated, acknowledging OSL’s commitment to corporate social responsibility through affordable telecommunications services and innovative products like Orange Money.

SLAJ President, Alhaji Manika Kamara, echoed Bangura’s sentiments, praising OSL for recognizing the media’s pivotal role as a strategic partner in national development. He pointed out the company’s long-standing commitment to improving journalists’ welfare through consistent support to media institutions and sponsorship of important SLAJ activities, including their Annual General Meetings. “Our partnership is built on trust, mutual respect, and shared values,” Kamara remarked, emphasizing the importance of ongoing collaboration.

The Executive Secretary of the Independent Media Commission, Mr. Khalil Kallon, welcomed the initiative, appreciating Orange Sierra Leone for creating a platform that fosters dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders. He noted that the timing of this engagement is crucial, particularly in promoting effective communication to strengthen public trust. Kallon also stressed the necessity of supporting community-based media outlets, advocating for professionalism, ethical reporting, and continuous capacity development within the media sector.

In her address, Madam Aicha Touré reaffirmed Orange Sierra Leone’s commitment to innovation, service excellence, and national development. She highlighted the significant progress made in expanding the company’s network, advancing digital inclusion, and engaging in corporate social responsibility initiatives. “Orange Sierra Leone remains committed to ensuring that technology delivers real value to the people of Sierra Leone,” she declared, reiterating the integral role of the media in the company’s mission and its commitment to quality service delivery and regulatory compliance.

The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Mr. Chernor Bah, delivered the keynote address, commending Orange Sierra Leone for its robust partnership with the government and the people of Sierra Leone. He emphasized the transformative impact of Orange Money in advancing financial inclusion, especially in underserved and hard-to-reach communities. Minister Bah articulated the importance of collaboration between the government, private sector, and media, stating that such synergies are essential for national development and inclusive growth. “We achieve more when the media, private sector, and government work together,” he asserted, highlighting the media’s role in promoting transparency, accountability, and national cohesion.
