NASSIT Discusses Strengthening Social Security Collaboration With New Labour Minister

The leadership of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), led by Director General, Chernor Mamoud Jalloh, and his Deputy, Mohamed Bangura, on Monday, 7th September 2026, engaged with the newly appointed Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Umaru Napoleon Koroma Esq., at the Ministry’s Headquarters in New England Ville, Freetown.

The engagement provided an opportunity for the NASSIT leadership to formally brief the new Minister on the institution’s ongoing programmes, operational priorities, and work plans. The meeting underscored the importance of maintaining close institutional coordination between the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security and NASSIT, particularly in advancing policies and programmes that promote social protection and workers’ welfare.

As the Ministry responsible for providing direct supervision to NASSIT, the leadership recognised the need for a strong working relationship with the Minister to ensure that the Trust’s programmes and reforms remain aligned with the Government’s broader objectives for the labour and social security sector. The engagement therefore marked an important step towards strengthening collaboration, accountability, and effective implementation of shared priorities.

Minister Umaru Napoleon Koroma welcomed the NASSIT leadership and commended the institution for its continued commitment to advancing its work plans. He assured the delegation of his willingness to work closely with the leadership of NASSIT, emphasising that a coordinated and team-oriented approach would be essential to achieving meaningful reforms within the labour and social security landscape.

The Minister further stressed the importance of ensuring that ongoing reforms and initiatives are effectively implemented to expand and strengthen social security protection for workers across both the formal and informal sectors. The collaboration between the Ministry and NASSIT is expected to contribute to greater institutional efficiency, improved protection of workers, and the promotion of inclusive social security coverage for the benefit of Sierra Leoneans.

The engagement ultimately reinforced a shared commitment between the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security and NASSIT to work collaboratively in delivering on their respective mandates. By strengthening coordination and pursuing common objectives, both institutions aim to contribute to a more responsive labour and social security system that protects workers, supports economic participation, and advances the overall development and welfare of Sierra Leone.

I, the undersigned ABIE BETTY KANU of No. 6 Upper Tengbeh Town, Freetown in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone abandoned the use of my former name ABIE BETTY KANU  and in place thereof do assume from date thereof the names of  BETTY SUMA. I expressly authorize and request all persons at all times hereafter to designate and address me by assume name BETTY SUMA.

However, all documents, deeds and instruments bearing my sformer name remains valid.
