Yeabu Zainab Sheriff has been remanded at the Female Correctional Centre following her fifth appearance before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah, after the prosecution closed its case in the ongoing incitement matter.
The accused is standing trial on charges of incitement and threatening language, contrary to Section 30(1) of the Public Order Act of 1965. The matter stems from alleged statements she made at the Brima Attouga Mini Stadium in Freetown.
According to police, on Saturday, 31 January 2026, within the Freetown Judicial District, Sheriff allegedly made inciting remarks encouraging violence against individuals accused of election rigging. The prosecution further alleged that she made statements suggesting that those who cheated millions of people and committed related acts should not go unpunished.
When the charges were read and explained, no plea was taken.
At the previous adjournment, State Prosecutor Yusuf Isaac Sesay closed the prosecution’s case after calling two witnesses.
During her fifth court appearance, the defendant was given the option to testify, call witnesses, or rely on her police statement. She opted to rely on her statement.
Defence Counsel, Roland Wright, applied for a short adjournment to make necessary amendments to their case. The prosecution did not object to the application.
However, Magistrate Jah denied bail and ordered that the accused be remanded. The matter was adjourned to 25 March 2026 for further hearing.
