Lakka Hall Tops MMTU Sports Meeting 2026

Goderich, May 2, 2026 —

Lakka Hall emerged as the champions of the highly competitive inter-hall track and field athletics sports meeting held at the Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU) Playing Field, Goderich Campus. The event took place over two days, Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd May 2026, culminating in Lakka Hall amassing an impressive 302 points to clinch first place.

The annual MMTU Sports Meeting brought together some of the university’s most talented athletes from across the four main halls, showcasing exceptional athleticism and vibrant sportsmanship. In a thrilling contest, Juba and Lumley Halls tied for second position with 215 points each, while Adonkia Hall secured a respectable fourth place with 176 points.

Held under the distinguished grand chief patronage of Dr. Josephus Braimah, the event underscored the university’s commitment to promoting physical fitness, discipline, and camaraderie among its students.

In his opening address, Dr. Mohamed Alie Jalloh, the Director of Academic Affairs at MMTU, emphasized the importance of discipline and sportsmanship. He encouraged the participants to approach the competitions as friendly contests, stating that with intensive training, determination, sharpness, tactical discipline, and high-quality performances would naturally follow. Dr. Jalloh also highlighted the significance of team spirit and urged athletes to nurture their talents while competing fairly—without cheating.

The two-day event featured a variety of exciting disciplines, including the 5,000 meters men’s race, tug of war for both men and women, the 4×100 meters relay for men and women, the all-hall relay, the championship overall, the 1,500 meters women’s race, and the medley relay. Additionally, special recognition was given to the Best Female Athlete in the women’s category, celebrating outstanding individual performances.

Behind the scenes, the event was expertly managed by Technical Directors: Joseph Nyande, Augustine Kamara, and Mark I.S. Koroma. The hall representatives—Yayah Lamin and Fatmata Wusha Fornah for Lakka, Dr. Emmanuel Conteh and Rodney Coker for Adonkia, Ken Sawyerr and Marco S. Conteh for Lumley, and Dr. Ibrahim Sankoh alongside Sylvia Kamara for Juba—played key roles in coordinating their respective teams and ensuring smooth competition.

The lively and well-attended sports meeting not only fostered healthy competition, but also strengthened the unity and spirit among the students of Milton Margai Technical University. With Lakka Hall’s resounding victory, anticipation now builds for next year’s events, as other halls prepare to challenge the reigning champions.
