Minister Bah Takes New Chinese Ambassador On Conducted Tour Of Miatta Centre

Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor A. Bah, on March 3rd, 2026, took the new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sierra Leone, HE Zhao Yong, on a conducted tour of the Miatta Civic Centre to see where it can render support in transforming the iconic facility into a modern hub for civic engagement, cultural exchange, and national development.
Minister Bah outlined the ambitious plans for the revamped centre, which will feature a main auditorium, press conference room, civic art room, innovation hub, and outdoor event spaces. He emphasized that once completed, the centre will serve both public and private users, with rental and booking opportunities to generate government revenue and enhance the ministry’s civic programs.

Ambassador Zhao expressed enthusiasm about the project, commending Sierra Leone’s efforts to revitalize key civic and cultural infrastructure. He reaffirmed China’s continued friendship and partnership, emphasizing the mutual benefits of collaboration between the two nations.
Minister Bah underlined that China’s support will play a pivotal role in realizing the Miatta Civic Centre’s transformation into a state-of-the-art facility, aligning with China’s expertise in civic education and community engagement. He further proposed a strategic partnership to learn from China’s successful civic education model and apply its lessons locally.
Ambassador Zhao welcomed the proposal and pledged to explore concrete avenues of cooperation. He underscored China’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and supporting Sierra Leone’s development priorities.
The visit concluded on a positive note, with both leaders reaffirming that the Miatta Civic Centre’s modernization will stand as a symbol of the enduring friendship and shared progress between China and Sierra Leone.
