Sinneh Dumbuya, now popularly known as the “Plastic Man,” appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at the Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown, facing charges of larceny under the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the police file, the accused allegedly broke into a home at No. 2 Rock Lane, Brookfields, Freetown, on Saturday 20th January 2026, and made off with a cooking pot valued at Le 2,500, two big bowls worth Le 600, and two window frames valued at Le 600, bringing the total stolen items to Le 4,300, property of one Nafisatu Conteh.
Prosecutor 18235 K.K. Thoronka presented witness: Detective Police Inspector Mumunah Simpeh Kamara, attached to the CID at New England Villa police station.
Inspector Kamara testified that on the night of the incident, while on duty, the accused was brought to the station by one Mr. Raymond S. Bangura, who caught him red-handed stealing from the address. The witness told the court that the accused was cautioned and questioned in Krio, with his statement recorded in English.
Dumbuya allegedly affixed his right-hand thumbprint to the statement, which was witnessed and signed by Detective Sergeant 10783 Nyallay Abudulia Mustapha.
The statements were produced and tendered as exhibits A1-2 and B1-3. Kamara further testified that on 27th January 2026, the accused was formally charged following the same procedure, with those statements tendered as exhibits D1-2.
When asked if he had any questions for the witness, Dumbuya replied, “None.”
However, the court could not suppress amusement when the accused, now dubbed the “Plastics Man”, offered his unusual defense. According to sources, when caught at 3 a.m. inside someone’s apartment, Dumbuya claimed he was merely there to “gather plastic.”
Magistrate Fornah ordered that the accused be remanded in custody until Monday 9th March for ruling.
