At a recent press briefing, held at the Miata Conference hall by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, the Presidential Adviser on Gender Affairs, Isatu Kabba, emphasized that while every citizen has the right to speak and express themselves, this right must never be abused to harm others or create division.
Speaking as an opposition voice, she highlighted her commitment to addressing issues affecting the people, rather than targeting individuals. However, she expressed deep concern over statements and actions that have provoked tensions and caused lasting pain, especially to families who have suffered losses they may never recover from.
She warned that reckless political behavior and inflammatory speech can have devastating consequences, citing the Rwandan Genocide as a tragic example, where hate speech and division led to the destruction of entire families.
The adviser stressed that freedom of speech must be exercised responsibly. Citizens may criticize the government and leaders, but such criticism must remain within the law and be respectful.
She concluded by urging politicians, journalists, and advocates to recognize their limits, stressing that failure to do so could result in serious consequences for the nation.
