APC Flagbearer Aspirant Sorie Sulaiman Sesay Calls For National Reconciliation

By Joseph F Kanu

One of the leading All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer aspirants, Sorie Sulaiman Sesay, popularly known as “Triple-S,” has unveiled what he describes as a bold vision to reunite the APC, restore public confidence in leadership, and reposition Sierra Leone for sustainable national development if elected to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

Addressing members of the Parliamentary Press Gallery during an interactive engagement on Wednesday, 24 June 2028, Sesay delivered a passionate appeal for unity, arguing that both the APC and Sierra Leone stand at a critical crossroads where visionary, experienced and inclusive leadership is urgently needed.

He maintained that while the APC has produced many distinguished personalities with the capacity to lead, the party’s immediate priority should be to close internal divisions, strengthen party cohesion and present a united front capable of inspiring confidence among Sierra Leoneans.

According to Sesay, political disagreements are natural in any democratic organisation, but he believes the APC can only regain national leadership by embracing reconciliation, mutual respect and collective responsibility.

“The country is facing enormous economic and social challenges, and this is not the time for division. Sierra Leone needs leadership that can unite people regardless of their political affiliation, region or background. The APC must demonstrate that same spirit of unity if we are to effectively serve the nation once again” he admonished.

The flagbearer hopeful said his campaign is not centred on personalities or political factions, but on creating a stronger APC that places national interest above individual ambitions.

Highlighting his credentials, Sesay said he brings more than twenty years of experience in Sierra Leone’s public service, having worked with Parliament, government institutions, development partners and communities across the country.

He explained that these years of service have given him a deep understanding of the country’s governance structures and the everyday struggles confronting ordinary Sierra Leoneans.

Sesay said his experience has been shaped through practical engagement with communities and institutions responsible for delivering public services.

“I have travelled extensively across Sierra Leone and have interacted with people from every region. I understand their concerns because I have worked closely with them. Leadership is about listening to people, understanding their problems and developing practical solutions that improve their lives,” he stated.

He added that effective leadership also requires the ability to attract investment, strengthen relationships with international development partners and ensure that government institutions function efficiently and transparently.

Beyond his ambition to lead the APC, Sesay outlined a broader national vision aimed at transforming Sierra Leone through responsible governance, economic recovery and institutional reforms.

He observed that many Sierra Leoneans continue to struggle with unemployment, rising living costs, inadequate healthcare services, poor infrastructure and limited opportunities for young people.

According to him, addressing these challenges requires competent leadership capable of promoting economic growth, strengthening public institutions, improving education and healthcare, creating jobs for young people and restoring confidence in government.

He pledged that if entrusted with leadership, he would pursue policies that encourage national unity, improve service delivery and create an environment where every Sierra Leonean can contribute to national development regardless of political affiliation.

“I am prepared to work with political parties, civil society organisations, development partners, traditional authorities, religious leaders and every Sierra Leonean who believes in building a better future. Our country belongs to all of us, and together we can move Sierra Leone to greater heights,” he said.

Throughout the engagement, Sesay repeatedly stressed that unity would remain the cornerstone of his leadership philosophy.

He disclosed that throughout his professional and political life, he has consciously avoided aligning himself with internal factions, preferring instead to maintain cordial relationships across the party.

According to him, reconciliation within the APC is essential not only for electoral success, but also for rebuilding public trust in the party’s ability to govern effectively.

He called on party members at every level to put aside personal differences and work collectively towards strengthening the APC ahead of the next general elections.

Honouring Fallen Party Stalwarts

Sesay also used the occasion to pay tribute to several distinguished APC members who recently passed away, describing their deaths as a painful reminder of the sacrifices made by many loyal party faithful.

He paid glowing tribute to the late APC Public Relations Officer for Port Loko District, Comrade Omega Sesay, former National Chairman Minkailu Mansaray, and Hon. Lucinda Finda Kelly, acknowledging their immense contributions to the growth and development of the party.

“This is one of the most difficult moments for our party. We have lost committed men and women who devoted their lives to strengthening the APC and serving Sierra Leone. Their dedication, sacrifice and loyalty should continue to inspire every member of our party,” he remarked.

He urged party supporters to honour the memories of the deceased not merely through words, but by embracing the principles they stood for—unity, humility, integrity, discipline and selfless service.

Positioning Himself for Leadership.

As the APC prepares for what many observers expect to be a highly competitive flagbearer race, Sesay appears determined to distinguish himself by presenting experience, inclusiveness and reconciliation as the defining pillars of his campaign.

Rather than focusing on political attacks, his message consistently centred on healing divisions, rebuilding confidence within the APC and offering Sierra Leoneans a leadership style rooted in consultation, national cohesion and accountable governance.

With the contest for the APC’s leadership gathering momentum, Sesay’s appeal for unity is likely to remain one of the central themes of his campaign as he seeks to convince delegates that the future success of both the party and the nation depends on bringing Sierra Leoneans together under a common vision of peace, development and democratic progress.
