Zainab Sheriff Threatens Legal Action Over PPRC Fine Payment

Freetown, Sierra Leone — Popular entertainer and All People’s Congress (APC) member Zainab Sheriff has warned that she will take legal action if the APC settles a fine imposed on her behalf by the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC).

The warning follows a PPRC decision to fine the APC a total of NLe350,000 over violations of the Political Parties Act, 2022, arising from statements made during a mammoth APC meeting at the Atouga Mini Stadium in Freetown on January 31. Of the total amount, NLe150,000 was specifically linked to remarks attributed to Zainab Sheriff, which the Commission described as provocative and inciting .

According to the PPRC, the comments breached Sections 39(1)(c) and 39(1)(d) of the Act, which prohibit political actors from using language capable of undermining public order and national cohesion. The Commission gave the APC seven days to comply or face further sanctions.

In response to reports that the APC may move to pay the fine in full, including the portion attributed to her, Zainab Sheriff has publicly distanced herself from the payment and warned that any settlement made on her behalf without consent could result in legal action.

The development has intensified debate around political accountability, freedom of expression, and the scope of party responsibility for individual remarks at public political events, as the PPRC continues to enforce regulatory standards ahead of future electoral processes .
