Palo Conteh Calls for Peace, Justice, Unity & National Cohesion

At a time when political divisions continue to deepen and the wounds of historical injustices remain unhealed, there is an urgent need for a sincere and collective call for peace, unity and national cohesion.

We must recognise that no nation, community or society can build a lasting future while ignoring the injustices of its past. Calls for unity are important, and the pursuit of peace is a noble endeavour, but neither can be achieved through silence, denial or the expectation that those who have suffered should simply forget and move on.

True peace cannot be built on injustice, and genuine unity cannot be sustained without truth, accountability and a willingness to right past wrongs.

Those who have been wronged deserve to be heard. Their grievances must be acknowledged, their dignity respected, and their pursuit of justice treated with the seriousness it deserves. This is not a call for division or revenge; it is a call for fairness, responsibility and the moral courage to confront difficult truths.

We must therefore reject the false choice between justice and unity. They are not opposing ideals. Justice lays the foundation for trust, reconciliation creates the conditions for healing, and mutual respect makes lasting cohesion possible.

Let us, then, pursue peace without abandoning justice, seek unity without demanding silence, and build cohesion without erasing the lessons of history. Only by confronting the past with honesty and addressing its enduring consequences can we hope to forge a future in which all people feel recognised, respected and included.

Let our call be for a peace that is just, a unity that is genuine, and a cohesion that leaves no one behind.
