With the 2028 national elections drawing closer, the Council of Progressives (CoP) has issued a strong appeal for an end to the internal legal battles rocking the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC), warning that continued litigation among comrades risks draining the party’s time, resources and political goodwill.
In a press statement issued by its Coordinator, Sheku Ahmed Mansaray, the CoP called on APC members who have taken intra-party disputes to court to consider withdrawing their cases in the broader interest of peace, reconciliation and party unity.
The group argues that the APC cannot afford to remain consumed by internal battles at a time when it should be consolidating its structures and preparing for the crucial 2028 electoral contest.
Following consultations with party members across constituencies, districts, regions and the diaspora, the Council said there is growing concern that prolonged internal disputes and multiple court cases are distracting the APC from the bigger political battle ahead.
“The Council therefore respectfully calls on comrades who have initiated intra-party court cases to consider discontinuing them in the broader interest of party unity,” the statement declared.
The CoP acknowledged that some of the disputes have emerged from the implementation of the APC’s 2022 Constitution, including issues that may not have been adequately anticipated when the new constitutional framework was introduced.
However, the group insisted that such disagreements are not insurmountable and should be resolved through dialogue, compromise and adherence to established party structures rather than prolonged courtroom battles.
While calling for an end to internal litigation, the Council wants the APC to redirect its attention towards the constitutional cases currently before the Supreme Court and rally firmly behind the party’s Legal Team.
According to the CoP, those cases carry wider constitutional significance and deserve the collective attention and support of the party.
“No comrade should be left behind,” the Council stressed, calling for reconciliation and collective action across the APC.
The group also turned its attention to the party’s road towards its National Delegates Conference, calling on relevant APC structures and Parliamentarians to ensure that the body responsible for steering that process is constituted through a credible, competent and transparent process.
It warned that the process must be inclusive, fair and firmly grounded in the APC Constitution if the party is to avoid further controversy and another round of potentially damaging internal disputes.
The statement comes at a critical moment for the APC as it seeks to resolve internal differences, strengthen its structures and position itself for a return to power in 2028.
The CoP consequently urged party members to abandon inflammatory rhetoric and personal attacks, warning that actions which deepen factional divisions could weaken the opposition ahead of the elections.
For the Council, the message is unmistakable: settle the internal fights, unite the party, concentrate on the Supreme Court battles and prepare for 2028.
