Jagaban’s humanitarian healthcare interventions are reaching patients, health workers and communities across Sierra Leone, with his support extending from life-saving medical procedures and free healthcare to the rehabilitation of health facilities and the training of future medical professionals.

APC flagbearer aspirant Sheikh Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara, popularly known as Jagaban, has channelled much of the intervention through the Jagaban Charity Foundation, supporting Sierra Leoneans requiring critical medical treatment.

The programme has financed critical procedures including fibroid removal, hernia operations and other surgeries. The foundation has also facilitated treatment through medical professionals and healthcare institutions, including Connaught Hospital.

In Moyamba District, Kamara has provided monthly stipends to health personnel serving communities without formal placement on the government payroll.

The support is intended to help sustain healthcare services in underserved communities where health workers remain essential to local residents.

In Blama, Kamara financed the rehabilitation of a community health centre serving residents and surrounding communities.

The investment has improved the facility’s capacity to provide healthcare closer to the people who depend on it.

The intervention extends beyond immediate medical needs. Kamara has provided financial assistance to students pursuing medical education, including support for tuition and other educational expenses.

The objective is to contribute to the development of Sierra Leone’s future healthcare workforce.

Among the individual cases supported was a 25-year-old man who underwent facial reconstruction surgery after years of living with a debilitating facial condition.

For the beneficiary, the intervention represented more than treatment, offering an opportunity for improved health, confidence and dignity.

The foundation says its medical assistance is based on need rather than political affiliation, with beneficiaries not required to belong to any political party.

Kamara has also supported a private clinic providing free medical services, with the programme reportedly reaching thousands of Sierra Leoneans.

The interventions come as Sierra Leone continues to face challenges involving healthcare access, affordability, infrastructure and human-resource capacity.

While humanitarian initiatives cannot replace the state’s responsibility for sustainable healthcare delivery, Jagaban’s programme has provided direct assistance to patients while supporting health workers, strengthening facilities and investing in future medical professionals.

For beneficiaries, the impact is ultimately measured in outcomes: a patient treated, a surgery completed, a health centre restored, a medical student supported and, in some cases, a life given a renewed chance.
