Magistrate Fornah Slams 24Months Imprisonment On Technician

Forty six years old Alpha Sorbah, a technician, has been sentenced to 24Months Imprisonment by Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No2 on a count charge, to wit: Obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the particulars of offence, on the 5th December 2022 at #24 Pademba Road in the western area, Freetown, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of thirty seven thousand Leones(37,000) from Victoria Kebbie by falsely pretending that he has a plot of land for sale, knowing same to be false.

When the charge was read and explained to the defendant, he pleaded guilty.

The Prosecutor, Sergeant 8811 Florence Wilson, told the bench about the fact as charged , adding that no previous criminal records was found against the defendant and that he is a first time offender before the court.

The defendant was not legally represented and he pleaded with the bench to temper justice with mercy on his behalf.

Magistrate Fornah, delivering his ruling, said that having heard from the Prosecution that the defendant is a first time offender, and also having heard from the defendant, now pleading for mercy and also taking into consideration the quantum of money the defendant has defrauded from the complainant, he then sentenced him to serve a term of twenty four months Imprisonment, and same to be served in full or restore the said sum of (37,000) to the complainant.
