Hon. AKK Seeks Parliamentary Probe Into Illegal Suspension Of MMTU Vice Chancellor

A deepening crisis at a leading college has prompted Hon. AKK to demand that parliament summon the Minister of Technical and Higher Education for an urgent explanation. For nearly a month, the institution’s accounts have remained frozen, the substantive Vice Chancellor has been forced out by a single letter from the Chancellor, and the acting Vice Chancellor has been ordered to cease operations entirely.
Speaking with growing alarm, Hon. AKK described the situation as a grave concern, noting that the college had been widely regarded as one of the most progressive institutions in the country, both financially and in terms of infrastructure. “This is not a council decision,” he said. “It is a single letter from the deviser and from the Chancellor asking the Vice Chancellor to leave. We have since seen the acting VC being told to cease operation. This looks like an attempt to kill a very good institution.”
The frozen accounts alone have crippled normal functions, making it impossible for the college to carry out the many projects and developments that were underway. Hon. AKK pointed out that the institution had also been succeeding in new enrollment trends and student work programmes, making the sudden leadership vacuum and financial lockdown even more perplexing.
He further raised questions about the role of the substantive Vice Chancellor, who he described as sincere and effective in leadership, now inexplicably out of office. The involvement of the Chancellor in issuing the unilateral directive has sparked suspicions of improper influence, particularly given past financial dealings that remain unclear.
“Some of us are concerned not just because we are members of the council, but because this is our institution,” Hon. AKK said. “We are pleased with the developments we have seen, the projects, the progress. And then suddenly one letter undoes everything.”
He is now calling on Parliament to summon the Minister of Technical and Higher Education to appear before the House and explain exactly what is happening at the college, who authorised the freezing of accounts, and on what legal basis the Vice Chancellor was removed without a council vote.
“The economy is fully on the way, and the college has to do many, many things,” he added. “We need the Minister of Higher education to come and explain this model of destruction.”
