SLPHA Provides Seamless Ferry Transportation & Hospitality Services
The Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to national development and regional integration by providing seamless ferry transportation and exceptional hospitality services in support of the 2026 ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit being hosted by the Government of Sierra Leone.
As the high-level summit continues at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Center in Lungi, the Authority has deployed staff across the country’s three principal ferry crossing points (Government wharf, Kissy Ferry Terminal, and Tagrin Ferry Terminal) to ensure the safe, efficient, and comfortable movement of Heads of State, and other dignitaries traveling daily between Freetown and Lungi.
The initiative, undertaken under the leadership of Director General, Yankuba Askia Bio, and with the support of the Ministry of Transport and Aviation led by Ambassador Alhaji Fanday Turay, complements Government’s broader efforts to deliver a successful regional summit, while showcasing Sierra Leone’s capacity to host major international events.
During an inspection visit aboard MV Muzuk on Tuesday, 14th July, 2026, the Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation, Rex Bonapha, commended the SLPHA for its outstanding service delivery and warm hospitality. The Deputy Minister described the ferry operations and customer service as “top notch,” noting that such dedication by public institutions is essential in supporting Government during events of national and international significance. He further encouraged state institutions to emulate SLPHA’s commitment, emphasizing that coordinated institutional support is vital to projecting a positive image of Sierra Leone before the international community.
The ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit is one of the sub-region’s most important diplomatic engagements, bringing together West African leaders to deliberate on issues of regional peace and security, economic integration, trade, governance, infrastructural development, and collective prosperity. Hosting the summit reinforces Sierra Leone’s reputation as a stable democracy and a credible partner within the ECOWAS sub region, while creating opportunities to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation. For the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority, supporting the successful hosting of the summit is a direct reflection of its statutory mandate to facilitate safe, reliable, and efficient maritime transport and port services. By ensuring uninterrupted ferry operations and maintaining high standards of professionalism and hospitality, the Authority continues to contribute meaningfully to national connectivity, trade facilitation and the country’s international image.
The Authority’s presence at the ferry terminals throughout the summit underscores its readiness to support national priorities beyond traditional port operations, demonstrating that efficient maritime transport remains an integral component of Sierra Leone’s economic development and international engagement.
