(The Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU) Alumni Association United Kingdom Branch, on Friday 12th June 2026, donated 5 laptop computers, 2 projectors and 2 screens to be installed in the Great Hall and the Education Department. The UK Alumni also donated other Information Communication Technology (ICT) items, all estimated at over Le300, 000 million New Leones to the university administration at a ceremony held at the Great Hall of the Goderich campus in Freetown.

The UK Alumni underscored that they will finance the installation of the items to be used by the students as soon as possible.

Mr.  Ben Jusuf Koroma, on behalf of the UK Alumni, assured that they would continue with such donations,  revealing that this is not the first support to the institution.

Another member of the UK Alumni, Mr. Patrick Bangura, disclosed that the donation is to improve the standard of teaching and learning in the institution, and encouraged students to take the donation as an opportunity to enhance and promote learning. He appealed to the administration and students to count on them always and that students must hold MMTU in high esteem.

They furthered that MMTU would impart everlasting knowledge in the students, urging them to take their studies very seriously, and encouraged female students not to look down on their poor male colleagues who have a bright future. They maintained that MMTU is building their foundation for the future and that they should be proud of the institution.

Responding, Dr. Mohamed Alie Jalloh, Acting Vice Chancellor and Principal of MMTU, noted that the institution is very humbled to participate in the donation ceremony and receive the items, which he reiterated, are handy to be used by the Examinations Officer that is in dire need of them. He assured that they would be used judiciously, recalling that in the past MMTU products were referred to as the new generation of teachers, adding that he recently held discussions with the UK Alumni in areas of cooperation, revealing that this is not their first donation to the institution.

Dr. Jalloh expressed pride in past students of the MMTU for being studious, furthering that they have set a bright example and inspired the current students. He stressed that they are trailblazers and should inspire others, as they have done great things both as students and after. He appealed to other old students to emulate this sterling example, and affirmed that the donation has inspired the students even after graduation.

According to the UK Alumni, a year ago, they visited the university on a fact-finding mission to identity the needs of the institution, asserting that although the donation is not enough, but it’s the beginning, adding that the donation was made possible through fund-raising activities organized by the UK Alumni and that they are elated by the warm welcome accorded them by the administration and staff.

They continued that the MMTU has contributed immensely to their career development, as well as made them successful people in society and united them in the UK in spite of their political differences.

Special thanks and appreciation was extended to Mrs. Zainab Omoyemi (nee Tholley) and Mr. Thaimu Kamara, Chair of the UK Alumni, for their tremendous support to the success of the donation, underlining that the ICT items would help the institution to catchup with the rest of the world.

Earlier in her welcome remarks, the University Registrar, Christiana Pearce, welcomed and commended the UK Alumni for the kind gesture and wished them all the best.
