Jagaban Encourages Greater Participation In Agriculture
The All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer-leading aspirant, Sheikh Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara, popularly known as JAGABAN, on Thursday, August 20, 2026, visited cassava and corn farms in Rosar Section, Koya Chiefdom, Port Loko District.
The farms form part of an agricultural project supported by Sheikh Kamara under his broader initiative to contribute to the fight against hunger and poverty in Sierra Leone. During the visit, he interacted with farmers and observed their work, while reaffirming his commitment to supporting agriculture as a key driver of national development.
According to JAGABAN, agriculture extends beyond the production of food. He said the sector is closely connected to food security, job creation, youth empowerment and the expansion of economic opportunities for citizens.
“Agriculture is about more than farming; it is about food security, job creation, youth empowerment and economic opportunity,” he stated.
He further promised to continue supporting farmers with the resources and opportunities required to increase agricultural production and improve their livelihoods. He also encouraged young Sierra Leoneans to view farming and agribusiness as profitable and sustainable ventures rather than activities limited to subsistence.
The APC aspirant said increased investment in agriculture could help create employment, strengthen rural communities and reduce the country’s dependence on imported food. He maintained that empowering farmers with access to inputs, technical support, markets and finance would enable them to contribute more effectively to the national economy.
JAGABAN emphasised the importance of collective support for farmers, noting that the success of communities depends greatly on the strength of their agricultural activities.
“When we support our farmers, we strengthen our communities. When we invest in agriculture, we invest in Sierra Leone’s future,” he said.
The visit to the farms in Rosar Section forms part of his wider efforts to promote agriculture and encourage greater participation in the sector. His initiative is expected to support local food production while inspiring more citizens, particularly young people, to explore opportunities in farming, agro-processing and related businesses.
Farmers and residents in the area welcomed the visit, describing agricultural support as essential to improving production and addressing the economic difficulties faced by rural households. The engagement also highlighted the need for continued collaboration among farmers, communities, policymakers and private investors to develop Sierra Leone’s agricultural sector.
