The Director General of the National Telecommunications Authority (NatCA), Amara Brewah, popularly known as Peduo, has reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to constructive engagement with national stakeholders following a courtesy visit to the National Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa.
Mr. Brewah, accompanied by NatCA Deputy Director General, Mama Seiwoh-Koroma, paid the visit on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the SLPP National Headquarters, Unity House, in Freetown.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the NatCA leadership to engage the SLPP National Chairman on matters of mutual interest, while also strengthening relations between the telecommunications regulator and the leadership of the ruling party. The engagement formed part of ongoing efforts to promote dialogue, cooperation and national development.
Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa warmly welcomed the NatCA delegation and expressed appreciation for the courtesy visit. He commended the leadership of the Authority for its continued service to Sierra Leone, particularly its role in supporting the growth and regulation of the country’s telecommunications sector.
The visit comes at a time when NatCA is deepening its engagement with key institutions and stakeholders on emerging challenges in the digital and telecommunications environment. Under the leadership of Mr. Brewah, the Authority has played an active role in addressing mobile money fraud and cyber enabled financial crime, issues that continue to affect consumers and businesses across the country.
In response to these challenges, NatCA partnered with the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation to convene a two-day national consultative workshop. The event brought together regulators, financial institutions, telecommunications operators, security agencies, civil society organisations and consumer-protection bodies.
The workshop, held at the NatCA Building in South Ridge, focused on developing a national roadmap to protect citizens who use mobile money services. Participants examined a range of issues, including fraud prevention, consumer reporting mechanisms, victim redress, information sharing, institutional coordination and legal reform.
The initiative reflected NatCA’s growing commitment to ensuring that Sierra Leone’s digital financial ecosystem remains secure, accountable and responsive to the needs of citizens. It also highlighted the importance of collaboration among government institutions, telecommunications companies, financial service providers and the public in tackling digital fraud.
Mr. Brewah’s leadership has helped promote industry-wide discussions and strengthen cooperation among stakeholders working to improve telecommunications regulation and consumer protection. These efforts are expected to enhance safeguards for mobile money users, improve accountability and build public confidence in digital services.
The courtesy visit to the SLPP National Chairman therefore served not only as a gesture of respect, but also as part of a broader engagement strategy aimed at strengthening institutional relationships. Through such engagements, NatCA is expected to continue contributing to national conversations on technology, communication, digital security and Sierra Leone’s overall development.
