The Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Africell Sierra Leone Ltd., Shadi Gerjawi, has commended Mr. James Bagie Bio, Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority, for improving standards in public service delivery, describing the Authority as a key partner in national development.
He made the statement following a visit by the SLRSA’s mobile licensing team to Africell’s headquarters at Wilberforce Village, where driver’s licences were issued to Africell drivers and other staff.
Gerjawi praised the Authority for its efficiency, transparency, and innovation in the issuance of driver’s licences, noting that the reforms have significantly enhanced public confidence and improved access to SLRSA services.
“Immediately my information was entered into the system, my licence was printed out instantly. The entire process took no more than Five minutes,” he said.
Africell, one of the leading telecommunications service providers in Sierra Leone, with millions of subscribers, relies on efficient public systems to support its operations. Gerjawi encouraged other institutions to take advantage of such services and ensure that their staff licences are always up to date.
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of Afrimoney Sierra Leone, Martison Obeng-Agyei, described the mobile licensing initiative as highly beneficial. He said it enables individuals and organizations to access driver’s licensing services conveniently without leaving their workplaces or business premises.
As part of efforts to improve service delivery, the SLRSA has established offices across the country and introduced mobile licensing units that travel to various locations to ensure wider access. The initiative has reached hard-to-access areas, including mining sites and corporate institutions, helping to ensure that all drivers are properly licensed.
Manager of Licences at the SLRSA, Othaniel Lahai, explained that the mobile service was introduced to make licensing more accessible nationwide. He noted that the goal is to bring services directly to the people, reducing the need for visits to SLRSA offices, while improving overall efficiency.
