Magistrate Jah Commits Business Woman To High Court

Thirty seven years old Jariatu Kamara, a business woman, has been committed to the Hiigh Court by Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah of Pademba Road Court No1 on three count charges, to wit: Conspiracy to defraud contrary to law and two count ranging from Fraudulent conversion contrary to section 20 (1) (iv) (a) of the larceny Act 1916

According to the particulars of offence on a date between 1st January to 14th March 2026 at #12 station Road off furniture, Allen Town in the western area in Freetown, with intent to defraud, conspired together with Massah Massaquoi in the United States of America and other persons unknown to defraud Mariama Serray Koroma.

Count two further stated that on the 1st January 2026 the defendant fraudulently converted to her own use or benefit the sum of ten thousand United States dollars, equivalent to two hundred and thirty seven thousand Leones(237,000) entrusted to her by Mariama Serray Koroma for the purpose of safe keeping.

Count three further stated that on 7th January to 14th March 2026, at the same place, the defendant fraudulently converted to her own use or benefit the sum of thirteen thousand eight hundred united state dollars equivalent to three hundred and twenty seven thousand and sixty two Leones(327,062) entrusted to him by Massah Massaquio for the purpose of delivery to Mariama Serray Koroma

When the charges were read and explained to the defendant, no plea was taken because it was committal proceedings.

The Prosecutor, Chief Superintendent of Police, Tommy B Zizer Esq, had served the defendant with a copy of the case and inquiry file on her first appearance and led his witnesses.  

Magistrate Jah, delivering his ruling, said that having carefully examined the available evidence contained in the file, he is satisfied that the evidence is sufficient to put the defendant herein on trial at the High Court, and therefore committed the defendant to stand trial at the High Court and admitted her to bail in the sum of six hundred thousand Leones with two sureties in like sum, with surety to be a Sierra Leonean by nationality, resident within Freetown and must produce valid identity cards, with one of the surety to be employed from a reputable organization. The bail to be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
