A 23-year-old unemployed man, Alpha Umaru of No. 1 Kroo Bay, Freetown, has appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 2 on allegations of stealing and damaging government property belonging to the Ministry of Finance.
Umaru is facing two charges of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916, and malicious damage, contrary to Section 51 of the Malicious Damage Act of 1861.
According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly committed the offences on 23 March 2026 at the Ministry of Finance on George Street, Freetown. He is accused of stealing a generator control system, copper cables valued at Le137,000, and two 100-amp batteries worth Le4,500 each, bringing the total value of the allegedly stolen and damaged items to Le146,000.
When the matter was called, Police Constable 18235 TKK, who prosecuted the case, informed the court that the complainant was absent and applied for a subpoena to be issued for the prosecution witness.
Magistrate Fornah granted the application and adjourned the matter to 29 July 2026 for further proceedings.
