The Deputy Minister 1 of Energy, Edmond B. Nonie, says government is working with international partners to strengthen the country’s energy sector at the Government weekly press conference.

He explained that development partners, including the FDB, have made significant investments, while the World Bank has committed about $50 million over the next three to four years to support ongoing energy projects.

He said these investments show strong progress and continued work in the sector, but noted that challenges still remain.

According to him, no matter the level of funding, proper management, technical capacity, and accountability are key to ensuring success.

He further explained that electricity supply in the country still faces limitations. He said the national demand is higher than what is currently available, leading to supply gaps and occasional outages.

He added that electricity is generated and supplied from multiple sources, including regional imports, hydro, solar, and thermal plants. However, supply drops during the dry season and increases during the rainy season.

He also noted that network problems such as faulty transformers, damaged cables, and vandalism continue to affect distribution even when power is available.

Despite these challenges, he assured that government is working to improve supply, expand access, and strengthen the overall energy system.
