Magistrate Refuses Bail To Two Drivers

Two drivers have been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown after appearing before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 over the alleged theft of a vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Education.
The accused, Alie Kamara and Abubakarr Koroma, are facing two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony, contrary to law, and larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, on July 1, 2026, at the Ministry of Education in New England Ville, Freetown, the two allegedly conspired with other persons unknown to steal a white JAC J6 4×4 pick-up vehicle, with registration number AWV 063.
The second count alleges that on the same date and location, the accused stole the vehicle, valued at Le636,000, which was the property of the Ministry of Education and was allegedly in the custody of Alie Kamara.
When the charges were read and explained to them, both accused pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutor Deputy Superintendent of Police Eric A. Deen Esq. informed the court that copies of the case and inquiry file had been served on the accused. Both acknowledged receiving the documents.
The defence subsequently sought bail, but Magistrate Jah declined to grant it, citing the seriousness of the allegations. The two accused were therefore remanded at the Male Correctional Facility pending further proceedings.
The matter was adjourned to August 20, 2026.
